Telescope Health Establishes COVID-19 Rapid Testing Site in Neptune Beach

Responding to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases across Duval County, Telescope Health–a local telehealth provider–today announced plans to expand its drive-thru service for rapid testing. In partnership with the city of Neptune Beach, the new rapid testing site opened Monday, August 2.

The site is located at 540 Atlantic Blvd., Neptune Beach, FL 32266, the former Kmart parking lot. It is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., closing briefly from 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“With the rise in COVID-19 cases and the highly contagious Delta variant strain, Duval residents are struggling to find and secure timely testing,” said Dr. Matthew Thompson, COO of Telescope Health. “In collaboration with Mayor Elaine Brown and the city of Neptune Beach, community members will now have increased access to rapid testing, empowering them to play their role in slowing the spread.”

The tests, which do not require an appointment, are available for individuals ages three and older. Results are available within two hours and have up to a 97.6% sensitivity when individuals are tested within the first five days of symptoms. For those tested negative past the first five days, Telescope Health physicians recommend a PCR test for confirmation.

“The lack of access to timely testing was creating critical health challenges particularly for families gearing-up to send students and teachers back into the classroom,” said Mayor of Neptune Beach, Elaine Brown.

Telescope Health has received funding by the city of Jacksonville for its previous COVID-19 testing services and remains optimistic for similar to be provided in support of the Neptune Beach site. At this time, the site will operate as self-pay and will remain open based on the community’s demand for rapid testing.

Rapid testing costs $125. No insurance will be accepted at this time; however, individuals may submit testing bills to their health insurance providers for reimbursement.
